TREATMENTS

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

Before any treatment starts, it is necessary to investigate the cause of the infertility. The first appointment should be with the couple. The doctor shall request some exams, and the results will be used to evaluate which treatment will be more adequate.

It should be requested both male and female assessments. The doctor will be able to give the best treatment options for each case. The exams may be:

FEMALE ASSESSMENT

  • Hormonal assessment: check hormones related to ovulation.

  • Transvaginal Ultrasound Scan: procedure that looks at the female reproductive system. It involves assessment of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes.

  • Saline Hysterography (SIS): procedure that can provide a better visualisation of potential obstructions in the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes.

  • Histeroscopy:  procedure used to examine the inside of the womb (uterus) and analysis of the endometrium (lining of the womb).

  • Videolaparoscopy: type of surgical procedure that allows doctor to check, with a thin tube with a camera, a complete analysis of the abdomen and pelvis, to examine the womb, fallopian tubes and ovaries. It is also used to search for endometriosis.

MALE ASSESSMENT

In 60% of male infertility cases, the cause is sperm alterations. To investigate the shape, number and motility levels, that is, the capacity the sperm has to move, it is necessary to do a semen and sperm analysis.
